ITHACA, N.Y.—The Big Red wrestling team picked up two wins on Saturday defeating Columbia, 37-3, and followed with a 37-6 victory over Hofstra at the Friedman Wrestling Center. At 174 pounds, junior Mack Lewnes pinned both of his opponents to tie the Big Red’s career pin record with 37. Kyle Dake (141) and Cam Simaz also picked up wins by fall for Cornell. The Big Red improves to 5-4-1 for the season and is 1-0 in Ivy competition.

Cornell will enter Ivy league competition this weekend with a dual meet doubleheader as the Big Red will face Columbia on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. and Hofstra at 5 p.m. at the Friedman Wrestling Center. The Big Red wrestling team enters the weekend ranked seventh in the nation by the InterMat Division I poll. Cornell has seven wrestlers ranked individually with freshman Kyle Dake (141) and returning All-American Mack Lewnes (174) leading the country at their weight classes. The Big Red returns five All-Americans and seven NCAA qualifiers into the opening weekend of dual meet competition as Cornell eyes its seventh straight Ancient Eight title.

ITHACA, N.Y.—The No. 6 ranked Big Red wrestling team took an early lead over No. 2 Iowa State, but the Cyclones powered back to a 24-13 win in Newman Arena on Sunday afternoon. In front of a crowd of 4,267, Troy Nickerson opened the match with a pin over No. 5 Andrew Long at 125 pounds. Mack Lewnes won by major decision at 174, while freshman Kyle Dake won by decision. At halftime, the Big Red inducted four new members into The Hall of Distinguished Wrestling Alumni. Cornell also honored wrestler Adam Frey who passed away in December after battling cancer.
