HAMDEN, Conn.—The Big Red women’s hockey team defeated Quinnipiac 4-3 on Saturday evening to complete its weekend sweep of ECAC Hockey opponents. Four different players scored for Cornell including freshmen Sam Wauer, Hayley Hughes, Amber Overguard and sophomore Liz Zorn. Freshman Kayla Strong was in net for the win making 19 saves.
Quinnipiac’s (1-8-1, 0-6-1 ECAC Hockey) Janine Duffy scored at 7:06 of the first period to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Wauer scored her first collegiate goal at 12:20 to tie the game at one going into the first intermission, and senior Brittany Forgues assisted on the goal.
The Bobcats scored two goals early in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, before Amber Overguard pulled the Big Red within a goal when she scored unassisted on the power play at 9:30. Quinnipiac held its one goal lead going into the third period.
At 14:53 of the third period, Zorn tied the game at three when she scored on the power play. Forgues picked up her second assist of the night and was joined by Brianne Schmidt.
Less than 30 seconds later, Hughes netted the game-winner off an assist by Caeleigh Beerworth.
The Big Red improves to 5-4-1 overall and is 2-1-1 against ECAC Hockey opponents.
The Bearcats’ goaltender Jamie Miller made 27 saves in net.
Cornell will return home on Friday, Nov. 30 when it will play host to Quinnipiac at home in Lynah Rink. The game begins at 4 p.m.
