Box Score

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- The Cornell offense banged out nine runs on 10 hits, but the high-powered Miami offense tallied 20 runs on its way to a 20-9 win over the Big Red on Tuesday night in Coral Gables, Fla. The loss sends the Big Red to 4-6 on the young season, while No. 10 Miami improves to 14-3 on the year.

Nathan Ford led the offense for the Big Red, going 3-for-4 with three runs batted in. Adam Jacobs and Domenic Di Ricco both went 2-for-4, with Jacobs driving in two and scoring twice, while Di Ricco scored twice and drove in one. Also with a multi-hit game was senior Brian Kaufman, who went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Cornell scored a pair of runs in the first, taking advantage of two walks and a hit batsman, scoring Di Ricco and Kaufman. Miami came right back, though, scoring five times in the first on Cornell starter Bryce Klinesteker. After a Kaufman single scored Jacobs in the top of the second, Miami then tacked on three runs in the second and another three in the third to take an 11-3 lead into the fourth.

The Big Red cut the deficit to 11-9 with six runs in the top of the fifth. Jacobs had a two-out, two-run single, followed by an RBI single by Di Ricco. After Kaufman had a bunt single, Ford drove in a pair with a single up the middle to close Cornell to within two.

Miami got a run back in the bottom half of the inning, then added six runs in the seventh and another two in the eighth to provide the final margin.

Klinesteker worked an inning, allowing eight runs on seven hits and four walks and a strikeout. Mike Carroll came on in relief, working 2.1 innings and allowing four runs, only one of which was earned, on four hits and four walks while striking out three. Mickey Brodsky then worked 1.2 innings, allowing six runs, four earned, on two hits and three walks, while striking out three. Will Keehn worked the final 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walking two and striking out a pair.

For Miami, Alex Koronis took the win, working 2.2 innings of relief. The Hurricanes used six pitchers, none of whom worked more than three innings.

Cornell will look to get back to the winning ways on Wednesday, taking on Long Island in a 2:30 p.m. contest in Palm Beach, Fla.
