PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Blake Gallagher scored two goals and Colin Greening had three assists as the Cornell men's hockey team routed Brown, 6-0, on Saturday night at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, R.I. The win comes a day after the Big Red suffered its first defeat of the season, a 4-2 loss at Yale.

Joe Devin, Joe Scali and Sean Collins each had a goal and an assist for the Big Red (4-1, 3-1 ECAC Hockey) on the night, while Mike Devin chipped in a pair of assists. Ben Scrivens stopped 28 shots for his 13th career shutout and first of the 2009-10 season. Brown (0-4-1, 0-3-1 ECAC Hockey) goaltender Mike Clemente stopped 28 shots in taking the loss for the Bears.

Cornell finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play, while Brown was held scoreless in five power-play chances.

Cornell got on the board at the 11:59 mark of the first period as Cornell capitalized on an odd-man rush. Greening sent a puck across the goal mouth to Gallagher, who lifted the puck over the leg of Clemente for the early 1-0 lead. That lead lasted just 13 seconds until Collins scored his first goal of the year. After winning the faceoff following Gallagher's goal, John Esposito sent the puck to Scali, who sent the puck to the front of the net, where Collins jammed it home for the 2-0 lead.

Cornell carried that lead into the third period after Scrivens made a pair of outstanding stops to keep the Bears off the scoreboard in the second. The first save came on a shot from Chris Zaires, kicking the puck away with his leg, while the second came with 18 seconds left in the period, making a glove save on a back-handed attempt from Aaron Volpatti. At the end of the second period, Brown's Harry Zolnierczyk was whistled for a slash, and Gallagher capitalized with six seconds left on the penalty to open the third period.

Brown coach Brendan Whittet pulled Clemente with three minutes left, and Cornell made the Bears pay for that decision, with Joe Devin potting an empty-net goal to make the score 4-0. Clemente returned to the net, but Cornell continued its relentless attack, with both Tyler Roeszler and Joe Scali scoring 22 seconds apart.

Cornell returns to action on Friday, playing host to Princeton in a 7 p.m. game at Lynah Rink.
