Fencing Sits in 13th Place After Day One of NCAA Tournament

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – At the conclusion of the first day of the 2010 NCAA Fencing Championships, the Big Red sits in 13th place. Cornell earned seven wins in epee and four wins in sabre.

The duo of freshman Addy McDonnell and senior Katherine Thompson combined for Cornell's seven epee wins with four and three victories, respectively. At the end of the day, McDonnell finished in 20th place, while Thompson sat in 23rd place.

Freshman Beverly Yang finished the first day as Cornell's top finisher, placing 19th in sabre with four wins.

Action continues Friday morning with rounds five through seven of the women's competitions of the 2010 NCAA Fencing Championships kicking off at 9:30 a.m. The semifinal bouts will follow the final three rounds of fencing tomorrow and the gold-medal bouts are slated for a 2 p.m. start. The women's individual awards will be presented immediately following the conclusion of the gold medal bouts.
