Nine Newcomers To Help Bolster Attack For Cornell Women’s Soccer Team

4/8/2010 1:32:56 PM

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell women's soccer coach Danielle LaRoche has announced the nine-member class of 2014 that will enroll at Cornell in the fall of 2010 and play for the Big Red. The group includes six midfielders, two forwards and one goalkeeper, helping to strengthen the squad for the upcoming campaign.

“The incoming class is a deep one that will bring speed and attacking ability to the women's soccer program,” LaRoche said. “This class brings attack-minded players who have a proven track record as successful playmakers and goal-scorers.

“The two forwards (Schlobohm and Harvey) have tremendous speed and tenacity and are bound to make the Big Red an offensive threat in the Ivy League,” she continued. “All five additions to the midfield bring a strong ability to possess the ball and can find passing lanes to set up the attack.”

The lone defensive player in the class, Tori Christ, gives the Big Red additional depth in an area that already was in good hands, as the Big Red roster boasts a pair of solid junior netminders in Kelly Murphy and Megan Bartlett.

“Tori is a great shot stopper and a strong leader,” LaRoche said. “She will bring even more talent to our already strong roster of goalkeepers.”

The class represents a nationwide focus on recruiting, with six different states represented, including three from the women's soccer hotbed of Northern Virginia. Another pair of players hails from California, with one player from Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey and New York.

The Big Red returns 12 letterwinners and 18 players from last season's squad. Cornell will open camp for the 2010 season in early August, with the team's first game likely to be played in early September. The full season schedule will be released in the coming weeks.
