SKILLMAN, N.J. – Cornell men's tennis player Jon Fife has been named as the Northeast Region recipient of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship.

The ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship goes to a player who has exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.

Fife finished his senior season with a 25-12 singles record during the year, going 17-8 in the spring and 3-4 in Ivy League action, playing primarily at number four. He was also part of a doubles tandem that went 26-11 on the year, 16-7 during the spring, and an impressive 6-1 in the conference.

Off the court, Fife has achieved a 4.0 in four semesters during his time at Cornell, earning him a membership in the 400 Club. He also exhibited strong senior leadership as captain of the 2009-10 squad and is an extremely well liked player in the locker room, as he lends support and direction to team's six underclassmen.

As one of 12 honorees of the regional award, Fife is now eligible for the ITA's national Arthur Ashe Award, which will be released on May 25.
