Player Biographies
Maka Anyanwu – 5-9 – F– Oakland, Calif.
(Umpqua Community College)
Anyanwu spent two seasons at Umpqua Community College after playing for Skyline high school. She finished the 2009-10 season ranked 12th all-time in Redhawks' history with 535 points and was named a NWAACC first-team all-league selection. Anyanwu was also named to the 2010 NWAACC All-Star Team – South Region.
Smith on Anyanwu – We are very excited to have Maka join our program. She is a strong small forward that knows how to use her body. She has a knack for the ball and knows how to finish and her two years of playing experience at Umpaqua Community College will be valuable to our young team.
Aspen Chandler – 5-7 – G– Dallas, Texas
(Little Elm HS)
A four-year letter winner at Little Elm high school, Chandler was a two-time team captain. She was named her team's offensive MVP in 2008 and was a two-time first-team all-district selection. Chandler also lettered three times in track. She played for the BST All-Stars AAU team, with her father Brian Hopgood serving as her coach, and helped the team to an YBOA national championship. She was named a BCI All-American and an AAU All-American in 2007.
Smith on Chandler – Aspen is a quick explosive guard that knows how to get to the basket. She is fast in the open court and is tenacious on defense.
Joelle Davidson – 5-10 – G/F – Hyattsville, Md.
(St. Johns College HS)
Davidson lettered four times at St. Johns College high school. As a senior captain, she led her team to an overall record of 26-7 and a WCAC championship. She was a McDonald's All-American nominee and played in the Baltimore vs. Washington All-Star game. Davidson was also named a Washington Post honorable mention all-league selection and won her team's Coaches' Award. She spent five seasons playing on the Team Unique AAU team.
Smith on Davidson – Joelle is another strong player that could see action as a guard or as a small forward. She can extend the defense with outside scoring ability, but she can also post up and is very good in transition.
Allyson DiMagno – 5-11 – G – Fairport, N.Y.
(Fairport HS)
A four-year letter winner at Fairport high school, DiMagno graduated as the second-leading scoring in school history (1,840 points), while also recording more than 1,000 rebounds. A two-time team captain, she led her team to the NYSPHSAA final four and was named to the Class AA State all-tournament team as a senior. DiMagno was the two-time Monroe County Division I Player of the Year and was a three-time Monroe County first-team selection, after being a second-team selection as a freshman. She was a three-time All-Greater Rochester first-team selection and was named the All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year as a senior. DiMagno was also named to the NYSSWA Class AA All-State fifth team as a senior after being a third-team selection as a junior. She was named one of the top 50 basketball players in the state by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York and was named the Section V Class AAA MVP as a senior. She led her soccer team to the Class AA state finals as a junior and was named a Monroe County Division I All-Star as a senior.
Smith on DiMagno – Allyson had a terrific senior year. She is a tall, strong guard that can really score. Her 3-point shooting ability will help fill the void of losing our top 3-point shooters to graduation.
Stephanie Long – 5-7 – G – Norwich, Conn.
(Norwich Free Academy)
Long lettered four times at Norwich Free Academy, serving as team captain as a senior. During her prep career, the Wildcats won back-to-back state championships (2008-09, 2009-10) as well as three conference tournament championships and four league championships. Long was a three-time ECC Large first-team selection and was selected to the ECC all-tournament team as a junior. As a senior, she was named all-area and academic all-state. Long also lettered four times in soccer.
Smith on Long – Stephanie is a tremendous 3-point shooter with deep range. She also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and is very good in transition.
Shelby Lyman – 5-8 – G – Snohomish, Wash.
(Archbishop Murphy HS)
A four-year letter winner at Archbishop Murphy high school, Lyman graduated as the school's record holder for career 3-pointers (218). She was named to the All-Cascade Conference first team three times and was a two-time first-team all-area selection. Lyman was also named second-team all-state as a junior and served as team captain as a senior. During her career, she helped her team to three Cascade Conference championships and two district championships. Lyman also lettered four times for the cross country team.
Smith on Lyman – We are very excited to have a player like Shelby join the team. She has the ability to play both the point guard and shooting guard positions. She is a smart player that sees the floor well and knows how to create scoring opportunities for herself and for her teammates.
