Cornell Men's Tennis Class of 2014 Biographies

Zhongming Chen – 5-6 – Oakland, Calif.
(The College Preparatory School)

Chen played for four years at The College Preparatory School. He was ranked number one in Northern California in the boys' 14s (2005), boys' 16s (2008) and boys' 18 (2009) rankings. Chen was ranked in the top 40 in the nation in the boys' 14s and boys' 16s rankings and was most recently ranked in the top 90 in the country in the boys' 18s rankings.

Bresky on Chen – Zhongming comes to Cornell as one of the top ranked juniors in Northern Cal. His tournament experience, speed and endurance will certainly make him a very strong college player, and we hope he will be an immediate contributor for us.”

Silvio Chiba – 5-10 – Irvine, Calif.
(UC Santa Cruz)

Chiba was a member of the 2009 NCAA Division II national championship University of California at Santa Cruz men's tennis team and helped the Banana Slugs to the 2010 indoor national team championship. Chiba played four years at Northwood high school.

Bresky on Chiba – Silvio comes to us from UC Santa Cruz where he played high in the lineup. He will bring a very strong work ethic to our team, as well as playing experience on one of the top DIII teams in the nation. He will be an excellent role model for our younger players and will fight for a spot in the starting line-up.

Max Haskin – 5-8 – New York, N.Y.
(Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School)

Haskin played one year at the Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School and was named his team MVP. He was ranked in the top 100 in the country in the boys' 18 rankings.

Bresky on Haskin – Max is coming off a very strong summer, where he competed in both the USTA national hard and clay court championships. He is a feisty competitor and has a very strong work ethic. We expect very good things from Max in the future.

Evan McElwain – 6-4 – Tulsa, Okla.
(Booker T. Washington HS)

McElwain lettered four times, playing No. 1 singles at Booker T. Washington high school. He was a four-time team captain and a four-time all-metro team selection. McElwain was also named all-state as a senior. He was the 5A state runner-up at No. 1 singles as a sophomore, junior and senior, and helped his team to a 5A state-runner finish in 2008.

Bresky on McElwain – Evan has a lot potential and could immediately be a threat in doubles and singles. He has great size and strength which allow him to play a very powerful game. I look for Evan to play a very large role in the program for years to come.

Chris Song – 6-0 – Novi, Mich.
(Greenhills School)

A two-time individual state champion in Michigan, Song played four years at Greenhills School, seeing action at No. 1 singles. He was a three-time team captain. Song was also a finalist in the 2008 USTA National Open.

Bresky on Song – Chris is one of the top juniors to come out of Michigan this year. His love for the game and strong work ethic will undoubtedly help the team for years to come. Chris has a versatile game and strong one-hand backhand that will develop at the college level.
