ITHACA, N.Y. — Four teams will gather at Reis Tennis Center this weekend for the Cornell Fall Invitational, which starts at 1 p.m. Friday with doubles play kicking off the action. The Big Red will play host to players from Binghamton, Buffalo and Colgate over the three-day tournament.
The event will feature two singles brackets — Red and White — as well as a doubles bracket. All flights will have consolation matches, which will begin Saturday. Junior
Venkat Iyer and sophomore
Sam Fleck — both All-Ivy League Second Team selections a year ago — have received first-round byes in the Red Singles Flight, while sophomores
Quoc-Daniel Nguyen and
Alex Sidney have matches in the Round of 16 at 4:30 p.m. Friday. This will be the first action of the fall for Iyer, while Fleck is 2-2 so far after advancing to the quarterfinals of both the Princeton/Farnsworth Invitational and the Columbia Classic.
The Big Red will have seven competitors in the White Flight, including junior
Spencer Clark — the C Singles Flight champion of the Columbia Classic last night. Fleck and Nguyen will be reunited in doubles as the only tandem with a first-round bye after winning the top flight title last weekend at Columbia.
