Cornell Fall Invitational, Day 2
ITHACA, N.Y. — Sophomore
Sam Fleck has reached the finals of the Red Singles Flight and teamed with classmate
Quoc-Daniel Nguyen to reach the championship doubles match after Saturday's play at the Cornell Fall Invitational for men's tennis.
Fleck won a pair of singles matches in the second day of the three-day event, defeating Binghamton's Ruben Haggai, 6-2, 6-3, and then his doubles partner – Nguyen – 6-1, 6-3. Fleck will take on Buffalo's Vusa Hove at 10 a.m. Sunday in the finals after Hove defeated Cornell junior
Venkat Iyer, 6-2, 6-1, in the other Red Singles Flight semifinal.
Fleck and Nguyen partnered up to defeat teammates
Alex Sidney and
Spencer Clark in the doubles semifinals, 8-3. The championship match will take place at 9 a.m. against Binghamton's Alexander Maisin and Eliott Hureau, who defeated the Big Red tandem of
Patrick Fiaux and
Andro Zunic in the other semifinal. In the doubles consolation bracket, Cornell's
Kyle Berman and Alex WIlton will take on the Binghamton team of Ismael Dinia and Robin Lesage in the finals at 9 a.m. Sunday.
In the White Singles Flight, Clark won both of his Saturday matches to reach the finals. He downed teammate
Zhongming Chen, 7-5, 6-1, in the quarterfinals before topping Hureau, 6-3, 6-1. It's the second straight week in which Clark has reached a singles flight final after he won the C Singles bracket of the Columbia Classic last week. Clark will take on Binghamton's Alexander Maisin at 10 a.m. Sunday to determine the champion.
