BANGALORE, India — Fresh off a collegiate season that earned him All-Ivy League honors, Venkat Iyer has carried over his success on to International Tennis Federation Futures events.

Iyer has recently won a pair of matches in the main draw of Futures events in India. Those victories have given him a pair of ATP World Tour ranking points. Iyer just finished his sophomore season with the Big Red in the spring, making him the only active Ivy League competitor to hold an ATP World Tour ranking.

"Venkat's hard work is paying off these days and given his commitment to improve his game, I am glad to see him advancing in the main draw at these Futures," said Silviu Tanasoiu, the Director of Intercollegiate Tennis and the Savitt-Weiss Head Coach of Men's Tennis at Cornell University.

Iyer is ranked 1,518th at the start of the week, but will likely move up after accounting for his performace at the most recent tournament, the India F9 Futures (Toyota ITF Open). Iyer received a wild card entry into the main draw of 32 earlier this week, then won his first-round match against Sagara Manjanna, 6-4, 6-3.

It was the third straight week in the main draw of Futures events for Iyer. He won a pair of qualifying draw matches May 26-27 to advance into the main draw of the India F7 Futures (ITF Mandya Open). He then won a three-set match against Australian Scott Puodziunas in the first round of the main draw to earn his first ATP World Tour ranking point.

The following week at the India F8 Futures (ITF Mysore Open), Iyer again won two qualifying draw matches to advance to the main draw. While each of the tournaments has a tournament purse of $10,000, Iyer does not accept prize money to maintain his amateur status.

Iyer is coming off a Big Red season in which he emerged as the team's primary competitor at No. 1 singles, where he posted an overall record of 10-11 in dual matches and a 2-5 mark in league play. He was selected to the All-Ivy League Second Team after consecutive league victories against Dartmouth's Michael Laser on April 8 and Brown's Soufin Azargui on April 14.
