ITHACA, N.Y. – Senior
Sarah O'Neil was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team for women's tennis in singles, and the team of junior
Ryann Young and sophomore
Lauren Frazier were named to the All-Ivy Second Team in doubles on Thursday afternoon. O'Neil is Cornell's first three-time All-Ivy selection since 2002.
O'Neil was 9-6 overall in dual singles matches this season and was named the team's Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row. Playing exclusively at the No. 1 position, she was 2-5 in Ivy League play. O'Neil defeated Dartmouth's Sarah Leonard, 6-2, 6-4, and Brown's Misia Krasowski, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. That win against Krasowski also led to O'Neil being presented the team's Best Match award at the squad's postseason banquet, as the win clinched a 4-3 victory for the Big Red against the Bears at Brown's Varsity Tennis Courts.
O'Neil had two victories against once-ranked opponents — UMBC's Kim Berghaus and Fairleigh Dickinson's Anna Rapoport — and won the 'A' Singles bracket at the both the Cornell Fall Invitational and the Cornell Winter Invitational. She was also named to the All-Ivy Second Team in singles last season and the All-Ivy First Team in doubles, making her the Big Red's first three-time All-Ivy selection since Suzanne Wright was tabbed to All-Ivy First Team in singles from 2000-02.
Despite having completed just her second season with the Big Red, Frazier has the unique distinction of being the program's first two-time All-Ivy doubles selection. After being named to the All-Ivy First Team in 2012 while paired with O'Neil, Frazier was partnered with Young for the final three weeks of the season. The result was a 5-1 record for Frazier and Young in Ivy League play, including a perfect 4-0 mark from the No. 2 position.
This was Young's first All-Ivy honor. She posted a team-best 13-5 record overall in doubles, including a staggering 12-1 mark from the No. 2 spot. The Big Red was 14-4 overall and 3-4 in Ivy League play, setting a program record for victories in a season.
