At Cornell
A former walk-on, Heller has emerged as a big-play safety who will have an opportunity to start in 2009 after gaining a spot on the two-deep each of his first two seasons. He possesses good size for a safety and has strong instincts with the ability to be around the ball consistently. Heller earned his first letter as a freshman in 2008 as a very capable backup to All-Ivy League safety Tim Bax. Heller saw action in eight games and recorded nine tackles with one tackle for a loss. Against Harvard and Brown, he recorded three tackles each, and against Yale, his tackle behind the line of scrimmage accounted for a 10-yard loss. Heller joined the team as a freshman and impressed the coaching staff with his ability to quickly pick up the defensive schemes. He is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences.
At Dr. Michael M. Krop
An honorable mention all-county selection by the Miami Herald, Heller served as team co-captain at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior HS in his final season. The Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year, he was a three-year letter winner in both football and track and field. Heller earned a silver medal in 7-on-7 football at the Junior Olympics and earned a national title at the "Let It Fly" flag football tournament. He also won a world title in the IFFF 8-on-8 flag football.
Personal
Benjamin Charles Heller is the son of Jonathan and Sherri Heller and has two younger brothers and a younger sister. His brother Jordan is a sophomore on the Big Red football team.
