  • Sport(s)
    Football, Men's Track & Field
He captained both teams his senior year and earned a reputation as a reliable standout on both squads despite several nagging muscle strains and other ailments. In football he was the most valuable player following his senior year when he led the Ivy League in total offense from his quarterback position. He was selected first team All-Ivy for the accomplishment. Over his three years of running the ball he averaged better than six yards per carry. Coach Lefty James praised him as “the greatest boy I ever had the opportunity of coaching.” (1957) In track he was known as the team’s handyman because he would run in whatever events needed him most, though he was an especially good sprinter. He won the 100-yard dash title at the outdoor Heptagonals his senior year and was a member of the 880 relay team that won the Penn Relays. His accomplishments in both sports earned him the Cornell Daily Sun’s Athlete of the Year award in 1957. As an undergraduate he resided in Lynn, Mass.
