As an undergraduate, she was the goalie for the field hockey team, which was undefeated during her four years, and she played No.1 singles in tennis. Following college, she learned to play squash and was a member of the Metropolitan New York Women's Squash Racquet team that won the national team tournament. She was the founding chairman of the National Junior Development Committee and the founding president of the Western Women's Squash Racquets Association for the U.S. Squash Racquets Association. At the age of 44, she began competing in masters track and field events and has gone on to her greatest athletic achievements, including 43 national championships in 20 different events. She has set 14 national records, four world records and won two world championships (in the pole vault and the weight pentathlon). In 1990, she set the Soviet women's pole vault record. In 1989, she was the recipient of the USTFF outstanding masters track and field award. She has set 12 Empire State Games records in nine different events. Stewart is a graduate of Fairport (N.Y.) High School.
