One of Cornell's all-time great football players, Viviano was a fullback for three years with the Big Red under head coach Gil Dobie and was captain his senior year. An outstanding two-way player, he also excelled as a linebacker. He was a hard-hitting fullback in Cornell's highly successful single wing attack. The 1930 team scored 273 points and gave up just 63, and the 1931 team scored 239 and gave up 20. During his three years, he led Cornell to an 18-5-1 record, including impressive victories over Pennsylvania in 1930 and '31. The Big Red beat Dartmouth in 1932 for the first time in six years. The New York Sun named him a first-team All-American in '32, and was an Associated Press All-America second team and an AP All-East first-team selection. In 1958, Sports Illustrated magazine named Viviano to its Silver All-America team as one of the best college football players over a 25-year period.
