Charles C. (Nick) Carter

  • Class
    1922
  • Induction
    1984
  • Sport(s)
    Men's Track & Field, Men's Cross Country

A two-year letterman in both sports, he was a half-miler in track. He ran the final leg of the two-mile rely team that finished second at the 1922 indoor IC4As, won the outdoor Penn Relays, and placed fourth in the 880-yard run at the outdoor Intercollegiates that year. He captained the 1921 cross country team, considered the best harrier squad ever at Cornell. The ’21 team won all the meets it entered, two of them by perfect scores, and shattered all previous records by taking six of the first nine places in the IC4As to win the championship with 18 points (a record that still stands). Carter placed third in that race, and during the season he was always among the first to finish. As an undergraduate he resided in Rock Island, Ill.
