He won the 1919 Eastern Intercollegiate championship at 115 pounds and captained the team as a senior. At the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium, he was the only American to bring home an individual championship, winning a gold medal by defeating all of the contestants in his weight bracket. In 1960, he was inducted into the Helms Foundation National Amateur Wrestling Hall of Fame. As an undergraduate he resided in Cuba, N.Y.
