A 5-6 guard on the basketball team, he set several all-time Cornell records, including the career points mark of 1,253, over his three-year varsity career. A two-time All-Ivy selection, he averaged 23.0 points as a senior for the highest seasonal scoring average ever at Cornell. He also set the single-game scoring record when he recorded 42 points vs. Syracuse in 1956. Overall, in 24 games played by the Big Red during the '56 season, he scored 20 or more points in 14 times and tallied 30 or more eight times. Rolles was second on the team in scoring in 1953-54, helping Cornell to the Ivy League title and its first appearance in the NCAA basketball tournament. Co-captain of the team as a senior, he was a two-time United Press Small All-America team selection for players under 5-10.
