Vandyke was the Ivy League gymnastics champion on the parallel bars in 1971 and 1973, the Ivy side horse champion in 1972, horizontal bars champion in 1972 and 1974, and the Ivy all-around champ in 1972, 1973 and 1974. He was second on the side horse and parallel bars in 1974. Vandyke set the Cornell record in the all-around in 1973. Cornell, which competed as a club team in Vandyke’s freshman year (1971-72), won the Ivy title all four years he competed; gymnastics became a varsity sport at Cornell in 1972-73; it was also the first year in which Cornell competed as a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Gymnastics League. He was co-captain in 1973-74 and was co-team MVP in 1973 when he placed eighth in the all-around at the EIGL championships.
