A three-year letterman in football, he had an outstanding year in 1958 when he was named to the Coaches All-Ivy first team as a guard, the Associated Press All-Ivy first team, and was an AP All-East third-team selection. He also received AP All-America honorable mention. Savitsky was named by the American Peoples Encyclopedia to its All-Ivy Scholastic first team, honoring players with at least a B average who are outstanding. He was voted the team's most valuable player in 1958, when the Big Red went 6-3 overall and tied for second place in the Ivy League with a 5-2 record. As an undergraduate, he made his home in Mary D, Pa.
