Cornell University Athletics

A brilliant pole-vaulter in his college days, was captain of the 1917 track team.  He won the IC4A championship in the pole vault in both 1915 and 1916 and took first place at the Penn Relays in 1915.  He won a gold medal in the pole vault at the 1920 Olympic Games, with a world- Olympic-record performance of 4.09 meters (13’-5 1/8”).  He was also a two-time U.S. national champion.
