He was an outstanding halfback on the 1946-47-48-49 football teams, and one of few Cornellians who earned four varsity football letters. The 1948 and '49 teams compiled 8-1 records both seasons and won unofficial Ivy League titles. Injuries sometimes limited his playing time; he played the 1948 season with a broken jaw which had to be wired together. He continued to play though injured and was very productive. His four-year career stats: 112x530 rushing, 1x19 receiving, 4x32 punt returns, 4x89 kickoff returns, and 2 TDs.
