He was an outstanding right halfback on the excellent football teams of 1948, 1949, and 1950, with the '48 and '49 teams posting identical 8-1 records and winning back-to-back Ivy championships. He received Associated Press All-Ivy honorable mention honors in 1948 when he led the team in rushing with 598 yards, and his 6.1 rushing average per game on 98 carries ranked him second in the East. Over his three-year career, he rushed from 1,138 yards on 244 carries and scored eight touchdowns. He was invited to play in the North-South all-star game in 1950. He lettered as a sprinter on the track team his junior year. As an undergraduate he resided in Atlanta, Ga.
