A three-year letterman in baseball, Polzer was an outstanding shortstop on the teams of 1938-40. He captained the team in 1940 when Cornell won the Ivy title, and helped the Big Red tie for the championship in 1939. He lettered as a guard in basketball in 1937-38 and 1938-39.
