His 31 Big Red swim teams, which invariable displayed good balance, compiled an overall record of 135-133-3, going undefeated in 27 straight dual meets from 1943 to 1947. He was president of the College Swimming Coaches Association of America 1956-57, and in the early 1960s he spent four years on the NCAA swimming rules committee and was its chairman in 1963 and 1964. From 1947 through 1956 he was chairman of the All-America selection committee of the coaches association. In 1971 the CSCAA honored him as a “distinguished coach,” for his long association wit the sport and his other accomplishments. When he retired from the head coaching position in 1966, he devoted full time to his intramural directorship which included overseeing 128 leagues, 1,256 teams, 2,776 contests in 20 sports with 5,500 different students participating. His retirement from Cornell in 1974 marked 39 years of devoted service to the athletic department.
