As an undergraduate, he was president of the Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America (IC4A) in 1926. He was manager of the Cornell-Princeton track team which visited Oxford and Cambridge his senior year. He joined the University staff in 1948 as director of the Greater Cornell Fund, subsequently serving as the Fund’s executive secretary and general alumni secretary of the University before being named assistant to the president in 1967 until his retirement in 1970. His interest in Cornell affairs culminated in a book about the history of the University’s alumni associations titled “Her Honor Forever Maintain,” which was published in 1972. An avid track and field supporter and meet official, Hunt was the major force behind the development of the Moakley Fund, which supplements the track team’s regular budget.
