She was a three-time All-America selection in women's soccer, earning first-team honors in 1988, second team in 1989 and third team in 1987. She was a four-time All-Ivy first-team pick and a four-time All-Northeast Region selection. Smith was voted the Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 1986 and was runner-up for Ivy Player of the Year honors as a junior, when Cornell tied for the Ivy title. She was captain of the 1988 team and co-captain in 1989. She graduated ranked second in career points (51), tied for second in career assists (13) and third in career goals (19). She was the starting sweeperback and captain of the U.S. Youth National soccer team that participated in the North America Cup at Minnesota in the summer of 1987. She was on the final ballot her senior year for the Hermann Award, which is given to the top collegiate women's player by the Missouri Athletic Club. Smith, who is a graduate of W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, Va., resides in Randolph, N.J.
