A three-time letterman, he had two undefeated dual-meet seasons, and lost only one dual meet in three years at 137 pounds. DeMeo was undefeated vs. Ivy League opponents with a 7-0 record (9-0 overall) during the 1962-63 campaign. Cornell was undefeated in Ivy League competition the three years he was on the squad. He went on to win the National Freestyle Championship before becoming the head coach at Stanford University for six years. DeMeo was the Cardinal's winningest coach at the time. In 17 years as head coach at Albany, he taught five NCAA champions. DeMeo was head coach of the U.S. Greco Roman World team four times and National Coach of the Year for USA Wrestling three times. Twice he was the coach of the U.S. Pan American team, and was a member of the USOC coaching staff in 1976, 1980, 1988, and 1992, coaching two gold medalists. In 2005 DeMeo was named Developmental Coach of the Year by USA Wrestling, the national governing body for amateur wrestling in the United States.
