She won the individual title at the Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association National Championships in 1968, as Cornell won its second straight team crown. She placed fifth in the individual competition at the 1967 NIWFA championships. Denton, who never fenced until her freshman year at Cornell, compiled an excellent overall record of 158-18 during her final two seasons, while the Big Red's record was 38-2 during that time. She captained the team her senior year.
