Although he never played the sport before enrolling at Cornell, Webster had an outstanding career as an attackman on the Big Red lacrosse team, becoming a three-time All-American, earning first-team honors in 1969 and '70 third-team honors in '68. He was also a three-time All-Ivy first-team selection. He set Cornell career records for points (151) and goals (128), the season-goal mark (50, 1968), and tied the record for most goals in a game (8 vs. Hobart, 1968). He also set Ivy League records for goals in a game, season and career, and points in a game and career. During his three seasons with the varsity, Cornell compiled an overall record of 31-3, with the 1968 team going 12-0 and the 1970 team 11-0, and figured in the Ivy championship all three years. Webster was tri-captain of the 1970 team and was voted team MVP as a junior and senior.
