Lettered in football in 1941-42 & '43. Captained 1943 team which compiled 6-4 record. Received United Press All-America and Associated Press All-East honorable mention honors as a center in 1943. Selected on the East team that played in the East-West Game in San Francisco on New Year's Day 1944. Also played on the College All-Star team that played the Chicago Bears. Drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles but due to WWII he ended up playing for the Navy following graduation.
