He was a two-time Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association champion at 150 pounds, winning the title in 1984 and '85 and participating in the NCAA championships both seasons. He was a three-time All-Ivy first-team performer and received honorable mention as a freshman. He won the New York state 150-lb. championship three straight years and was named the outstanding wrestler of the New York state tournament in 1985, when he was the fourth-ranked wrestler in the nation in his weight class. The Cornell Sun Co-Athlete of the Year in 1985, he compiled a career record of 73-12, going 29-2 as a senior, and his 26-bout winning streak was the longest by a Cornellian in almost 20 years. He was the recipient of the Peter J. Floros Memorial Award, given to the outstanding wrestler on the team, as both a junior and senior. He was a tri-captain of the team in 1984 and a co-captain in 1985. He was inducted into the New York State Intercollegiate Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in January 1995.The former Avon, Ohio, resident is a graduate of St. Edward High School in Cleveland, OH.
