He was a two-time All-Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League first-team selection, as an outfielder in 1971 and as a third baseman in 1969. He was named the team's MVP in 1971, when he was also the recipient of the Blair Bat Award as the EIBL's batting champion (.419). He was named to the District II All-Start firs team and to the American Association of College Baseball Coaches All-America third team in 1971. He led the '71 team in batting average (.371), RBI (45), doubles (11) and hits (143), and was among the national leaders in RBI with a game averae of 1.25. He also pitched in seven games his senior year. He compiled a three-year career batting average of .309. Watzka is a graduate of Kingston (N.Y.) High School.
