A four-year letterman in football, he was a starting defensive tackle on the 1944, 1945, 1948 and 1949 teams. He helped the Big Red to 8-1 records in both 1948 and ’49. In 1949 he received Associated Press All-America honorable mention honors. During the 1948 and ’49 seasons, he was nominated for lineman of the week three times. He was the University heavyweight boxing champion in 1948. A graduate of Har-Brack High School, he resided in Natrona Heights, Pa. as an undergraduate.
