Robert H., the brother of Charles E. Treman Sr., was an outstanding baseball pitcher for his four undergraduate years and captained the team as a senior. He also rowed on three class crews and played football. He continued his productive work for Cornell sports by becoming, in effect, its first director of athletics, although an unpaid one. He coordinated their programs and ran their business affairs for 11 years as alumni treasurer, from 1890 to 1901, when John L. Senior '01 was hired as the first salaried graduate manager of athletics. Mr. Treman was one of the five-man alumni committee which raised the funds in 1914 for the grading and preparation of the playing surfaces which became Schoellkopf, Hoy, and Upper and Lower Alumni Fields.
