He was a staff photographer at Cornell from 1945 until 1956, when he went to work at the Ithaca Journal. He returned to Cornell in December 1965 as director of visual services. In 1950 he introduced the taking of posed action football pictures using strobe lighting and continued to do this for Cornell into the 1970s. He also shot posed action pictures for the University of Pennsylvania in the 1950s and at Colgate University from 1955-56. His excellent work helped project the Cornell image to the media. He has won more than 75 national and regional photographic contests. He was New York state photographer of the year four times. An Ithaca native, he ran track at Ithaca High School, and was also an outstanding softball pitcher and an excellent bowler.
