A specialist in the weight throw indoors and in the hammer throw outdoors, Baginski set the school record in the weight throw in 1979 with a distance of 64-7 1/4, currently second-best all-time at Cornell. He was a two-time All-American as selected by the U.S. Track & Field Federation on the basis of his sixth-place finish in the hammer throw at USTFF championships in 1977 and his second-place finish in the event in 1979. He qualified for NCAAs in the weight throw three straight years and was also a three-year qualifier in the hammer throw. Baginski placed eighth in the weight throw at the 1980 IC4As after placing sixth in the event in 1979. He was named the team’s top weightman as both a junior and senior. Baginski was the recipient of the ECAC Merit Medal as Cornell’s outstanding scholar-athlete in 1979.
