He has been a friend of Cornell athletics since coming to Cornell as an undergraduate in 1943. He played soccer as a freshman, and served as the manager of the wrestling team for four years. He also served his class as the Big Red bear mascot for football games. As an alumnus, he has maintained close ties with Cornell athletics. He was the public address announcer for football and hockey games for almost 30 years, has served as a track official for over 40 years, and has helped recruit track officials. He has been a generous financial supporter of Cornell athletics, having made a significant contribution to the construction of the Schoellkopf Field press box that was completed in 1986. The media floor of the press box is named in his honor. He has also been a great friend to a number of coaches and athletic administrators, often housing them for interim periods as they get settled in Ithaca. He makes his home in Ithaca.
