A member of the national junior crew from 1971-73, he participated in the World Championships with the U.S. team in 1975, 1977, and 1978. He has been a member of three Olympic teams, rowing in the eight-oared shell at Montreal in 1976, a four in the boycott year of 1980, and rowed bow in the silver medal-winning eight at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. He is a graduate of T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va.
