Captain of the wrestling team in 1923, he won the Intercollegiate heavyweight championship in 1922, which enabled Cornell to win the team title. He placed second at the Intercollegiates in 1923, as Cornell again won the team championship. He was a member of the 1924 Olympic wrestling team, competing in the 174.8-meter class; he was defeated by Pekal of Sweden in an extra period after the regular bout had gone to a draw. He won letters as a member of the soccer team in 1922 and 1923.
