A tri-captain of the 1973-74 hockey team, he was named to the All-Ivy and All-East first teams as a junior, and was All-Ivy second team as a senior. A stellar defenseman, he scored 13 goals and 45 assists for 58 points during his three-year varsity hockey career. He co-captained the soccer team as a junior, but gave up the sport as a senior to concentrate on hockey. During his soccer days, he received All-America honorable mention and team MVP honors as a sophomore, and was a two-time All-Ivy and All-New York State first-team back. He played one year of varsity football and won his letter in 1972. He set the Cornell single game record for most field goals, converting 3x3 in a game vs. Yale in '72. He also held the Cornell record for most points in a game by a kicker (10). Murray was an assistant hockey coach at Cornell from 1982-85.
