ITHACA, N.Y. – Megan Ramey, a 2002 Western Michigan graduate who has spent the past six years as the top assistant coach at Texas State, has been named the new assistant coach for the Cornell women's soccer program, head coach Danielle LaRoche announced today. Ramey replaces Elke Reisdorph, who resigned in April to become the head coach at Marietta (Ohio) College.

"Coach Ramey brings a new level of experience to Cornell Women's Soccer, with seven years of Division I coaching experience,” LaRoche said. “As a former all-conference goalkeeper, I know Megan will help our goalkeepers and defenders continue to improve their shut out record. Having worked with a championship program for many years, I know Megan has the expertise and drive to help lift us to the top of the league."

Ramey spent the past five seasons at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, helping the Bobcats to at least 12 wins in each of the past three seasons, including a pair of undefeated regular seasons and a berth in the NCAA tournament in 2008. A former collegiate goalkeeper herself, Ramey worked primarily with the goalkeepers and the defense. Her efforts helped Mandi Mawyer post the sixth-best goals-against average and eighth-best save percentage the nation in 2009.

Ramey's duties also included serving as the team's recruiting coordinator, where she worked to bring in the 2010 Southland Conference's Newcomer of the Year. She also did extensive work with organizing team travel and film review.

Prior to her arrival in San Marcos, Ramey spent a season as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Western Michigan. There, she was the team's primary goalkeeper coach, assisting with all aspects of the program, and was involved in game analysis and practice preparations.

Ramey also spent two years as an assistant coach at Washington College in Chestertown, Md., coaching the goalkeepers and serving as recruiting coordinator while working on a Master's degree. Ramey's coaching experience also extends to the youth ranks, as she spent a year on the goalkeeping staff for the Region III team in the Olympic Development Program. She also has spent the past three and a half years as the goalkeeper trainer for the South Texas State ODP program.

An experienced camp clinician, Ramey has served on the coaching staffs at camps across the country, including Texas State, the University of Texas, the University of Tulsa and Western Michigan.
Ramey was also a decorated player, earning first-team All-Mid-American Conference honors as a goalkeeper during her junior season. She still holds the school record at Western Michigan for save percentage, stopping 82.5 percent of the shots she faced during her career. She was twice named the team's most valuable player and was named team captain for three seasons. Following her collegiate career, she played one season each with the West Michigan Fire and the South Jersey Banshees, both of the W-League.

Ramey graduated from Western Michigan in 2002 with a B.S. in Psychology, and earned a Master of Arts degree in the same field from Washington College in 2004. She holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) A Coaching License and earned her USSF National Goalkeeping License in 2010.
