ROCHESTER, N.Y. – In the Cornell women's track & field team's return to competition for the first time since 2020, junior Beatrice Juskeviciute broke her own school record in the heptathlon at Friday's Redhawk Capstone Meet, hosted by Roberts Wesleyan. Juskeviciute won the event by a landslide with 5,697 points, a mark which currently ranks ninth in all of Division I this year.
Juskeviciute built a strong foundation on the first day of the heptathlon competition on Thursday, amassing 3,503 points across the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, and 200-meter. Part of this impressive performance on day one included a heave of 14.12m (46' 4") in the shot put, a distance which ranks sixth all-time in Cornell history.
Juskeviciute finished strong on Friday, capping off the heptathlon with a collegiate personal-best performance in the 800-meter (2:18.91) to break her own school record and re-establish herself in the NCAA rankings. Her previous school record of 5,687 was set last summer when she was crowned the Lithuanian National Champion in the event.
On the track, senior Melissa Zammitti won the 1,500-meter in convincing fashion, crossing the finish line 15 seconds ahead of the field with a personal-best time of 4:24.03. She also placed second in the 5,000-meter (16:50.427), and along with Isa Meyers, who won the 5,000-meter (16:50.424), the duo went 1-2 in the event, finishing side-by-side.
Brooke Overholt shined in the hurdle events, winning the 400-meter hurdles in 58.99, a mark which currently ranks 26th in the NCAA Division I East Region. She posted an impressive performance in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles as well, clocking in at 13.88 to secure the fourth-fastest time in Big Red history. It was another Big Red student-athlete who took the 100-meter hurdles crown on Friday, as Ama Boham won the event in a personal-best 14.30.
In the field, Phoebe Price-Roberts won the hammer throw with a heave of 55.26m (181' 3") to move into second all-time in Cornell history in the event.
Leone Farquharson (5.96m/19' 6.75") and freshman Lauren Jones (5.81m/19' 0.75") went 1-2 in the long jump, with Jones posting a solid collegiate debut. Farquharson's leap marked an outdoor personal-best and sits seventh on the Big Red's all-time top-10 list.
Olivia Rodriguez took care of business in the high jump, clearing 1.70m (5' 7") on her first attempt to secure the victory in the event. She is now tied for 10th all-time in the Big Red record books.
