BELGRADE, Serbia — Solveig Imsdahl '13 was the lone Cornell rowing alumn to participate on the third day of the 2023 World Rowing Championships on Tuesday.
Imsdahl and her teammate, Elaine Tierney, placed third in the lightweight women's pair finishing behind crews from Italy and Germany.
The Italian duo of Elisa Grisoni and Serena Mossi took the lead in the opening 500 meters and never looked back as they finished with a time of 7:25.66. Behind the Italians was Eva Hohoff and Luise Munch of Germany, who rowed a time of 7:37.71. Imsdahl and Tierney were the last boat to finish, clocking a time of 7:42.14.
Tuesday's race was to determine lane assignments for Friday's lightweight women's pair final were medals will be distributed.
Last year, Imsdahl and Tierney garnered silver medals as they were edged by Italy.

Wednesday's action at the Ada Ciganlija regatta course on Sava Lake will feature heavyweight rowing alum Eliot Putnam '18 in the men's single sculls quarterfinals at 5:40 a.m. ET (11:40 a.m. CEST). Putnam will face individuals from Croatia, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Australia, as well as Yauheni Zalaty, who is competing as an individual neutral athlete. The top-three finishers in Wednesday's quarterfinal race will clinch spots in the semifinals.
Along with Putnam, lightweight rowing alum Sorin Koszyk '20 and his temmate Ben Davison will compete in the quarterfinals of the men's double sculls at 8:07 a.m. ET (2:07 p.m. CEST). On Sunday, the tandem garnered a first-place finish in the fourth of five heats in their event. Koszyk and Davison will compete against crews from Belgium, Spain, Italy, Norway, and Czechia in the final quarterfinal race. Like the men's single sculls, the top three finishers will advance to the semifinals.
