ITHACA, N.Y. — The Cornell men's lightweight rowing team heads to Worcester, Mass., to participate in this year's Eastern Sprints Championship on Lake Quinsigamond, which will be held on Sunday, May 19.

Races will begin at 8 a.m. with heavyweight crews, while the first lightweight heat of the day will not launch until 9:38 a.m. with the 1V8+ race. The first grand final of the day that Cornell will partake in will be in the V4+ at 11:12 a.m. The 4V8+ and 3V8+ races will start at 1:50 p.m. and 2:36 p.m., respectively.

Last year at Eastern Sprints, Cornell finished third in team points for the Ralph T. Jope Cup only behind first-place finishing Princeton (28 points) and Harvard (24 points). The Big Red has won the Jope Cup six times since being first awarded in 1963, which featured the Big Red claiming the first two trophies. The other victories for Cornell have come in 1992, 2008, 2014, and 2015.

The Big Red's fourth varsity eight set the course record last year in the grand final, concluding the course in 5:33.769. All of Cornell's entries appeared in their respective grand finals.

Returning to the water after a two-week break, Cornell will be racing in its first event since April 27 when it squared off against Dartmouth for the Baggaley Bowl in Hanover, N.H. The Big Red claimed the trophy over the Big Green for the 10th consecutive time after sweeping all three races on the day (1V8+, 2V8+, V4+).
