At Cornell
Olympian Nicole Ross joined the Big Red fencing staff as an assistant coach prior to the 2016-17 season.
Last season, Ross was instrumental in coaching the foil squad that produced three of Cornell's top-10 finishers at the 2018 Ivy League Round Robin, including All-Ivy selection Marissa Viqueira. At the championship, the foil squad earned victories over No. 4 Princeton, No. 9 Penn, Brown, and Yale, while handing Ivy Champion Columbia's foil squad 50 percent of its losses for the entire competition.
In her first season, she helped the Big Red post a record of 19-13 overall (2-4 Ivy) and finish 15th overall at the NCAA Championship. During the season Cornell posted two major victories, defeating St. John’s for the first time since 1992 and upsetting No. 9 Temple to beat the Owls for the first time since 1979.
Fencing Career
Ross has seen success on every level during a fencing career that has included a selection to the US Olympic team in 2012, a Senior World Championship Team gold medal (2018) and silver medal (2017), an NCAA Championship in 2010, an IFA Championship in 2009, a team Junior World Championship in 2009, and an Ivy League Championship in 2008. She is a nine-time member of the Senior National Team, serving as team captain since 2012, and helping the team to multiple World Cup medals and one World Champioship during that span.
Most recently, Ross has claimed six top-eight international results during the 2016-17 World Cup circuit and currently ranks 15th in the world among foil fencers. She also helped Team USA to its first-ever women's foil gold medal at the Senior World Championships.
