ITHACA, N.Y. - The Big Red men's squash team dropped only two games in a 9-0 rout of Amherst tonight at the Belkin Squash Courts. The victory improves the team's record to 5-6.
Freshman William Cheng (Markham, Ont.), playing at the No.1 spot, set the pace for Cornell giving up only four points in a 3-0 win over Amherst's Gifford Sommerkamp. The Big Red followed suit at the No. 2 through 6 positions, sweeping all of their matches in three games.
At the No. 7 spot, senior captain Jeff Porter (Haverford, Pa.) recorded a comeback victory over Amherst's Brian Lawrence, winning 3-1. After losing the first game 9-1, Porter rallied back and only allowed four points in the following three games.
The Big Red return to action tomorrow in a double header at the Belkin Squash Courts. They face Dartmouth at 10 a.m. and Denison at 7 p.m.
