ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell men's squash team opened up its 2003-04 season by defeating Penn and Western Ontario by identical 6-3 scores. The Big Red battled in both matches to earn the victories.

Against Penn in the morning match, Cornell claimed wins at Nos. 1, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9. William Cheng had a tough fight at the No. 3 spot, earning a 3-2 win over Ben Eude. His three winning sets were by scores of 9-4, 9-7 and 8-2.

Ted Hill also went five sets to earn the win at No. 9. After falling behind in the first two, he rallied in the end to take the match with scores of 9-4, 9-4 and 10-8.

Matt Green berg and Rohit Gupta had the faster matches of the morning, with the two each winning 3-0 at No. 5 and No. 8, respectively.

In the evening match vs. Western Ontario, The Big Red won the same, identical matches as the morning to earn the 6-3 victory. Cheng and Hill again had long matches at the No. 3 spot and No. 9 spots, earning 3-2 wins. Gupta also claimed a 3-2 victory at No. 8.

Matt Serediak, who had a 3-1 win vs. Penn, went on to sweep Tob Nigro in the evening contest, for the Red's lone blanking of the night.

Cornell returns to action tomorrow, Nov. 23, when it faces Princeton in an Ivy League match.
